Ko Te Whakatōhea te iwi.

Ko Muriwai te tipuna.
Tohetohe ake nei, tohetohe ake nei.
Ānō te ātaahua o te noho herekore a te wahine.
He tohenihorau, he toherauariki ina oho i ia ata i tōna tohetoa.
Kia Whakatāne!
Raised in Te whakatōhea, Janell grounds herself in her understanding of Te Āo Māori. Janell graduated from The University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Health Science and is currently working towards a Bachelor of Laws. She began her Public Health career with Hāpai te Hauora- within research, evaluation and gambling harm minimisation kaupapa. After a stint with Te Runanga o Ngati whatua as Maori Public Health co-ordinator and coordinating the Rangatahi strategy, Janell has returned to Hapai as the Kaiwhakahaere for Maori Public Health.
Janell brings with her experience and understanding of co-design, systems thinking, and youth engagement. Janell hopes to enable the progression of the Public Health sector and ensure that Hāpai are strong advocates for the needs of whanau, hapū and iwi, whilst allowing for the self-determination of their lives and futures.
