Mental Health Awareness Week

The spotlight shines on mental health in September, with World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September and New Zealand’s Mental Health Awareness Week starting on 27 September. Now is the time to start thinking about how you can be involved in these two important initiatives.

World Suicide Prevention Day is a chance for us to raise the awareness of suicide in our communities, reiterate the message that suicide can be prevented, and share support for the people that need it. The international theme for the day is Creating hope through action.

During Mental Health Awareness Week, we are reminded that one of the best things we can do to improve our mental health is stay connected and that means taking time to Kōrero. Let’s get behind the Mental Health Foundation and support the cause. You can register for information through their website.

We’ll keep you up to date in future newsletters about the events and activities the Ministry of Health is planning in September.
